Pentax K-10D

10 mega-pixels, shake reduction, and self-cleaning

Pentax has released a hot new 10 mega-pixel digital SLR, the K-10D. They don't call it the "*ist" anymore, and it is a big step above the six mega-pixel cameras that they have been releasing for the past few years.

This new gem has the same 11-point auto-focus system that is found in earlier models. It has an updated metering system and new higher resolution sensor. AND, finally, you can shoot RAW + JPG! The anti-shake system, according to Pentax, can give you up to four extra "F stops" of hand-hold-a-bility when shooting without a tripod. The Pentax website says it has "72 seals throughout the camera to allow photographers to continue shooting even in dusty or rainy environments." Here is a look at it:

On Pentax' website the new camera is sporting a battery grip. This camera does come with a lithium-ion battery. Yes, Pentax has been listening to the consumers who are critical of their "*ist" series of cameras using "AA" batteries or "CR-V3" cells. I have used the latter and they have given me over 800 shots before running out of power. That is not bad, really, and I have lithium-ion rechargeables from Radio Shack in my bag at all times.

I don't know just how effective the "dust removal" system is at this time, but, I am itching to get my hands on one of these cameras as soon as possible. When I do get one in hand, you can bet I'll be writing a detailed review of the camera and showing off the shots I took with it.

If you are a Pentax shooter and have been holding out for their 10 mega-pixel entry, your wait is over.
